Rzeszów – Intelligent Air and Noise Monitoring within the ITS Framework
Project Background
As a rapidly growing city in southeastern Poland, Rzeszów faced increasing traffic congestion and declining public transport efficiency. In response, the City Hall launched the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) project — a strategic initiative to enhance traffic flow, safety, and urban quality of life. A key component was the deployment of a city-wide environmental monitoring network.

Project Overview
As part of the ITS deployment, 14 monitoring stations were installed across
Rzeszów to measure air quality, noise, and weather conditions. Sensors were
mounted on existing lighting and newly installed poles along major roads.
Far Data handled delivery and integration with the ITS system, including:
- Executive project documentation
- FAT/SAT testing
- Measurement comparison with GIOŚ stations
- Real-time data transfer to the Traffic Control Center
- Integration with Siemens/Yutraffic Scala
- Staff training and post-installation documentation
Challenges and Solutions
The project demanded precise integration with Rzeszów’s existing ITS and communication systems, along with stable, uninterrupted data transmission.
Leveraging its integration expertise, Far Data delivered a reliable monitoring platform that ensures real-time environmental data flow to the city’s traffic management system.

Results and Impact
Data from the 14 stations closely matched GIOŚ reference measurements, confirming sensor accuracy and reliability.
Key outcomes include:
- Improved public transport efficiency
- Enhanced road safety via weather tracking
- Informed urban planning and decision-making
- Greater public awareness through real-time data access
Completed in July 2018, the system remains a vital part of Rzeszów’s ITS, supporting both strategic and day-to-day operations.
